Photofacial, Photofractional, and Resurfx

When it comes to laser treatments for your face, we have a few different options to choose from here at Juvly! You can opt for the Photofacial, the Photofractional, or the Resurfx treatments. But you may be wondering - what’s the difference between them? The main difference is the varied intensity of the treatments, and what they can be used to treat!

Our Photofacial is the gentlest of the three treatments, using pulses of either IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or BBL (Broad Band Light) to reverse signs of aging by altering your skin at the cellular level. Photo Facials are relatively painless, creating a feeling similar to a snapping rubber band. This treatment has been FDA approved since the 1990’s to zap away imperfections, and is considered one of the most effective non-invasive rejuvenating treatments for aging skin. Photofacials are typically used to treat minor imperfections such as skin discoloration, acne, and even vascular lesions including rosacea! Over time, due to aging and other factors the layers of your skin weaken and can appear thin, wrinkled, rough & blemished. Photofacials address these imperfections in a safe and gentle manner, with results that improve over time as the skin thickens and becomes healthier. When pulses of light are directed over the skin, it reaches the deeper layers where it jumps into action repairing damage and preventing the future signs of aging: sloughing off the superficial layer of the skin to reveal younger cells, stimulation of collagen growth responsible for creating volume and structure, and rejuvenation of the genes of the affected skin at the cellular level! After only 3-4 photofacials per year, the cells begin to act like younger versions of themselves.

Our ResurFX skin resurfacing laser will go deeper than a traditional photofacial and is best focused on deeper wrinkles, acne scarring and harsh sun damage. Instead of IPL, the ResurFX uses a fractioned laser which divides up the energy so that one piece of skin receives the laser energy, and the area next to it does not. This allows for more rapid healing, with considerably less downtime than if the whole skin was ablated. Basically, fractionated means that all the wavelengths are the same. If you traced one wavelength it would have the same amplitude and frequency as all the other wavelengths, and they would all look exactly alike. IPL on the other hand is a spectrum of wavelengths, and filters are placed to take out the less helpful ones for the given purpose, be it removing pigment, acne, or other imperfections. Our ResurFX module laser is the only true fractional non-ablative technology. Non-ablative means that it does not injure the surface of the skin; rather, it penetrates below the epidermis to stimulate the dermis to produce more collagen. By treating a deeper layer of the skin, ResurFX stimulates collagen growth by creating minor dermal injuries, thereby helping to improve skin texture. Increasing collagen production results in firmer, plumper skin, as well as a more even skin tone and texture. This treatment can also help repair blood vessels that have become visible, or help eradicate sun spots or other pigmentation irregularities!

The term “Photofractional” actually refers to the combination of both our Photofacial and ResurFX technologies. The Intense Pulsed Light is applied first to remove pigmentation as well as age/sun spots while stimulating collagen production, and then the ResurFX fractionated laser is used to treat fine lines and even out skin tone and texture. By using both IPL and ResurFX technologies, both skin pigmentation and texture can be treated in the same session! This treatment will provide the deepest and most effective results of the three options. Photofractional treatments remove the effects of aging and pigmentation, while resurfacing the skin’s tone and texture. It prompts the growth of new skin cells, providing tighter skin and an overall fresh, more youthful appearance utilizing the body’s natural healing process! The Photofractional uses a 1565 nm fiber laser and a very advanced scanner, which allows us to choose from more than 600 combinations for optimal treatment. It is a complicated system with many settings and customization, but that’s what makes it amazing! With the combined power of both lasers and specific settings we are able to really tailor your experience to help you get amazing results, in a shorter time – meaning less cost and time spent in the treatment chair! While this is the deepest laser treatment we offer, the side effects are minimal. Slight swelling and redness for 24-48 hours is the most you’ll see as a side effect. After one facial, clients should expect to see and feel smoother skin. Age spots initially become darker and then move to the skin’s surface where they fall away as part of the skin’s natural exfoliation process. Skin and pores feel and look tighter, while fine lines and wrinkles slowly decrease in size.

Our laser procedures can easily fit into your busy day. No need to miss work or have to skip on picking the kids up after school! Experience minimal downtime in a “lunch-time” treatment and return to your life! Most Juvly Clients tend to start on the facial area but once they start to see the results, they tend to treat other problem areas of the skin like the neck, shoulders and chest. Would you like to know what kind of laser skin options would be best for you? A completely free Juvly Facial Assessment is the BEST way to determine the type of laser, treatment settings, and cost to make your beauty goals a reality!
