Dimples can be charming on the cheeks but never on the buttocks and the thighs. An overwhelming percentage of women over 20 (some estimate it to be between 80-98%) have it. Short, tall, slim and overweight people have cellulite that is resistant to diet and exercise. It is a condition that frustrates doctors because it is so difficult to treat until Cellfina came along. Cellfina is the first FDA-approved, minimally invasive, non-surgical solution that can smoothen the look of dimples and craters for two to three years after a single treatment. it has high patient satisfaction with 98% of patients reported an improvement in dimpling and lumpiness. Some non-invasive office procedures like the RF-assisted Velasmooth or the laser Cellulaze and lotions with caffeine or retinol can smoothen the dimples and tighten the skin where cellulite exists (arms, abdomen, thighs, buttocks) but this is never for the long-term. Liposuction can remove the fat but does not release the contricting bands of connective tissue.
Hormonal changes, aging, poor circulation and a diet high in fat and carbohydrates predispose to the formation of cellulite. Long story short, enlarging fat cells push against the skin while the fibrous bands (connective tissue) vertically connecting the epidermis to the deeper connective sheath (fascia) remains fixed. In effect, this tugging of the skin and pushing upward of the fat creates the lumpy, dimply look of cellulite.
Think of these connective tissue as rubber bands. Cellfina releases tension by cutting through this structure, allowing the skin to "bounce back" for a more even look. Visible results can be appreciated in as little as three days after the procedure. You can look forward to three years of higher hemlines and skimpier bikinis!
Cellfina takes 1-2 hours and expect minimal downtime.
At three months, 85 percent of patients were satisfied, at one year 94 percent were satisfied, after two years, 96 percent of patients were satisfied and after 3 years, 93 percent of patients were satisfied surpassing the patient satisfaction rates of other leading cellulite treatments. - Cellfina.com
Cellfina technology uses a device about the size of a thin needle to cut through the bands in a procedure very similar to subcision. While standing, the "dimples" are identified and marked. About 25 of these dimples can be done in an hour. The skin is numbed and the blade from the Cellfina device is inserted. Through a fanning motion, the thin blade cuts through the bands just underneath the skin. Dimples and isolated pits are easier to treat than cellulite that present with a diffuse "cottage cheese" appearance.
The best candidates for Cellfina are those who have little skin laxity, between 20-60, stable weight and have well-defined cellulite. Expect some soreness, tenderness, bruising or swelling but you can resume usual activities within 24 hours. These symptoms will typically be gone after three days but compression garments are worn for two weeks. . Biking shorts are fine for as long as you can feel good compression. While results are good, expectations must be kept realistic.
