Botox Vs. Dysport - What's the Difference?

Botox is one of the most popular aesthetic services in the United States, and has been for over 10 years. Dysport is another brand of this product, similar to Coke and Pepsi. So, what IS the difference between Botox and Dysport? Dysport has a smaller molecule size than Botox, but both products have the same active ingredient and work by temporarily relaxing the targeted muscle. Although Botox and Dysport are each made by different companies, they are nearly identical in the way they work.

Both products inject and act similarly, so clients are unlikely to notice any difference during treatment. Dysport sometimes begins to act faster than Botox due to its smaller size, but this will vary from person to person. Neither Botox or Dysport are proven to last longer than the other. How long the results of your treatment last depends on your metabolism and a variety of other factors. You should consider trying both options to see which works best for you.

It should also be noted that Dysport and Botox units are not the same, so you can't expect to receive the same number of Dysport units as Botox units! A unit is simply a measurement used to determine the amount of Botox or Dysport given. All medications have measurements that describe the amount of the active ingredient, and most medications are measured by weight (milligrams, grams, etc.). However, medications that are derived from the body (such as Botox) are measured in units. Insulin for example, is measured in units, just like Botox! Some claim that Botox is approximately 3 times stronger than Dysport, but Dysport is simply smaller so its unit measurement is different than Botox! This doesn't make Dysport any less effective; the dosage is mainly a consideration for the Master Provider who administers your treatment. The ratio of Dysport to Botox units is generally 3:1, so if you needed 20 units of Botox in your forehead you would need about 60 units of Dysport!
