Is Dermaplaning Scary?

Many of our clients are unsure exactly what a dermaplane is. Some have heard a little about the treatment and have questions or concerns regarding the process. Here we will explain what the treatment is, who is a good candidate, and debunk any myths that make this treatment seem scary.

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

A dermaplane is a gentle exfoliation of the skin. A sterile blade is used to gently "shave" away the dead skin cells and peach fuzz from the skin's surface, revealing brighter, softer skin.

WON'T THE BLADE CUT ME?

Medical aestheticians are trained to hold the blade at an angle that optimied the removal of dead skin cells and peach fuzz without harming the skin. The treatment is completely non-invasive and there is very low risk for complications. In very rare cases the skin can be slightly nicked, and usually heals immediately. There is no downtime with this treatment, and many patients have it done on their lunch hour and go right back to work!

WON'T MY PEACH FUZZ GROW BACK THICKER AND DARKER?

This is a wives' tale and is absolutely untrue. The hair is unaffected by the procedure and will only grow back as peach fuzz.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THIS TREATMENT?

Just about anyone! Patients who wish to improve the appearance of their skin or remove their peach fuzz are great candidate. The treatment allows for a smoother makeup application and better product penetration. Dermaplaning also pairs well with other treatments such as a facial or chemical peel. Results are immediately apparent, but best results are seen with repeated treatments!
